Congratulations!

Welcome to The Prinsengracht, our very first mural in Amsterdam, residing on an UNESCO World Heritage building.

We’d like to share more details with you as you have made the effort to scan our discreet little shiny metal sign!

The mural came about thanks to the GoGallery which used to be located opposite where you are now standing.

The grey wall was a prime spot so why not make something ugly into something beautiful and inspiring. In the mural, you see our iconic Lad character, in this case a multiple headed ‘Totem Pole Lad with Chaz & I operating the mechanic robot from within the cockpit, dressed in lab coats.

The number on the body of the Lad references the house number, Prinsengracht 70. The lower arm of the robot can be seen painting the London Police logo of the shoe while the upper arm is supporting a swinging body of the Totem Pole Lad.

Back in 2009, Although the owner of the building gave permission, Gemeente Amsterdam (municipality of Amsterdam) wanted to remove the mural as we didn’t have their official legal permission.

However, thankfully the neighbourhood and near half of Amsterdam protested against its removal and since then the mural has been recognised for its merit and protected by Unesco.

We can gladly say that it is here to stay.

You are one of the very first to be able and find this extra information from the Prinsengracht Mural that we made back in 2009.
